I began to take Melatonin supplements about 15 years ago. I have bad insomnia and was diagnosed with depression in 2004. Initially, I relied on the sleeping pills prescribed by my Psychiatrist. But I felt it left me with undesirable side effects.
One day, I happened to read about Melatonin and its effectiveness for a 'natural' sleep. So I bought my first bottle of 1mg from the pharmacy.
Over the years, I've tested the 1mg, 3mg, 5mg and 10mg Melatonin tabs. So far, I concluded the 5mg tab, worked best on me. It helps me get to sleep more easily and does not leave me feeling groggy and drowsy the next morning.
Do take note there are some reported side effects associated with melatonin, which include nausea, headaches, dizziness and sleepiness . Melatonin may interact with certain medications, including antidepressants, blood thinners and blood pressure medications .
From my personal experience, when I take the highest dosage, the 10mg tab, I do feel drowsy/ sleepiness when I wake up the next morning. But so far have not personally experience any other bad side effects.
That being said, do bear in mind our individual body reacts differently. what works for me, may not necessarily have the same effect on your body.
This brand of Melatonin is pretty easy to take, as it is a small fruity flavored dissolvable lozenge.
I've previously bought another brand whereby the tab is even smaller with fruity flavored too, but the problem is these tiny tablets tend to melt inside the bottle and form into one chunk, within like 2 months of opening the seal of the bottle. But for this brand, the tablet remains dry and so far so good.
